A snappy suit in a dark blue shade would make a power look with its gold buttons and pocket square. The lapels were narrowed on most of the suits in response to the thinner style of ties that were making the rounds.
Some of the top color choices for men’s suits in the 80s were charcoal and blue. Pinstripes were also very fashion forward as were suits made from seersucker. Colorful shirts were also being added to give men’s suits a certain “snap”. You could find shirts in almost any shade desired including pink. While business suits were usually worn with French cuffs, a great tie, and wingtips or loafers the world of men’s wear was continuing to evolve.
Another look that guys embraced was the casually elegant look of the tropics. This was what they saw on Miami Vice. Linen suits with unstructured blazers and pleated pants became the rage even for those who lived in land locked areas and never saw the beach. These suits were matched with colorful tees or pastel tinted shirts and classic loafers without socks. This was the ultimate in “Hip 80s wear.”
The top fashion designers remained focused on swaying male consumers to purchase their particular brand. Armani produced classic men’s suits that had men and women both salivating. This was most assuredly 80s style high-end fashion at its best. Although this designer drew on past styles for much of his new line, he was able to make his garments look incredibly sexy and modern. The ultimate man’s suit of the 80s was definitely an Armani original that cost several thousand dollars to purchase.
